'Constructive alignment' starts with the notion that the learner constructs his or her own learning through relevant learning activities. The teacher's job is to create a learning environment that supports the learning activities appropriate to achieving the desired learning outcomes.

Constructive alignment sees the learner construct their own learning through appropriate activities, the practitioner creates the learning environment that is relevant and supports the participants needs and desired outcomes (Biggs, 2003). In a sport coaching context, the coach’s epistemological beliefs, theories of learning utilised, practice structures and coach behaviours should align with the players personal, technical, psychological and physical development objectives in order to Constructive alignments meaning is split over the two words.
